So I thought Caspar's 2nd name is Tristan and why not make a whole different version of the same track?:)I used ac. It ended up almost impossible choosing between the two. The same day Steve surprised me with a solo on the same tune. I was under the impression Steve was a bit too busy at the time, so while touring with Gary, we tracked it in my studio. I asked both Steve Hunt & Gary Husband to solo on it. It's called Caspar, after my son who was just born when I wrote it. On U-Turn, there's a version if this composition. Really proud of this one since it was such an impulsive idea, not taking it serious at all at first. So how cool is it to eventually have two of my heroes play on this?Randy Brecker ánd Jim beard did such a great job filling it in. The tune was roughly put together in only a few hours. It was easy to make some loops out of that, After that I glued a new part to it with a more open feel where the solos would be. Almost like a surdo drum.I had such a laugh listening back to what I had quickly recorded. To make it sound as if the pitch of the sound was edited all the way up.The Se Electronics Gemini II microphone made the bassdrum sound as if it was much larger than it looks. It's now got a 12"bassdrum, 10"floortom, 8"snare with splash-cymbals as hi-hats, another larger splash as crash and an 16"ride with rivets.Caspar totally loves it, and I wanted to use it for fun on one of my tunes. When my son turned 1 years old, I made him a tiny drumset out of the kit I used to work with in the UK. Mike deserves a lot of credit making this such a special recording to me. His solo fits perfectly with the vibe of the song. He was so nice to be into that without knowing me at all. Everybody in the room got excited and I went straight up to him after the show to ask his number so I could call him soon as I got a gig myself. A straight ahead Jazz kinda gig and it didn't seem to be very inspired music until Mike Outram got to take a solo. I moved to London in 2003 and remember attending my first jazz gig there at a club called The 606. I had just released 'U-Turn' (Abstractlogix Records 2009).I'm a huge fan of Mike Outram's guitar playing. I believe this was the very 1st tune composed especially for this album. With this release I feel I'm one big step closer towards where I want to be as a musician, composer & producer.Sincerely hope you'll enjoy this episode. A very inspiring workspace for sure. Thanks to all featured musicians & personalities, the compositions really got to another level. Also the move of my studio in Holland, to Germany near Bremen has had a major impact on the quality of these recordings. On Impulse, To me, again a very personal compilation of tracks I recorded a little over 2 year's time. Each track has it's own story to it which can be emotional, angry, energetic, happy, dark, colourful but definitely impulsive.A lot has happened to me during this period of time.Amongst things, I tried to celebrate the birth and growth of my son Caspar on a couple of these tunes specifically, but I think it sounds throughout the project. It turned out rather produced but always started out as kind of an improvisation on drums or rough sketch on guitar. Maybe someday I’ll attach my phone full of reminders to a string tied around my finger, just to be safe. The only thing that could’ve gone wrong was if I forgot to put the tickets in my purse before leaving for the show, but thankfully that didn’t happen. I used a clothespin to attach the tickets to a wire basket on my desk where they would be in plain sight, and then I set a reminder on my phone as to their whereabouts.Īs one final fail-safe, I flipped ahead to March on my (actual, paper) calendar and scrawled the location of the tickets in the square for March 11, the day of the show. That’s a lot of opportunities to misplace important tickets. Once the gift had been opened and “Defying Gravity” had been sung by my daughters at the top of their lungs about a million times, I gathered all the tickets back up and found another spot to keep them safe until this month, when the musical was actually showing. They were in one spot until Christmas, at which point I wrapped them up and put them under the tree. I had to get really creative last fall when I purchased tickets to “Wicked” as a Christmas present for our family and had to keep the tickets hidden for a month. I even once wrote “garbage” on a sticky note and put it on my teenage son George’s forehead so he would remember to take out the trash before heading out the door. When I need Logan to remember to take something to work, I’ll set it on the laundry room floor directly in front of the garage entrance, so there’s no way he can forget it unless he deliberately steps right over it. If I need to remember to double-check that the Tooth Fairy did her job before I head to bed, I’ll take lipstick and write “TF” on the bathroom mirror. If there’s something in the washing machine that I want to remember to take out before it gets fried in the dryer, I use a dry erase marker to write “1 thing” on the dryer door. Sally immediately clapped her hands together and said, “Oh, right! Gloria, can we borrow an onion?” This is the blood that pumps through my veins.Īs a very out-of-sight-out-of-mind person, I have to set reminders for myself all over my house. “Sally, I just noticed this string tied around my finger!” she exclaimed. After chatting for a while, Grandma got up to leave and started heading down the hallway to retrieve her coat.Īfter a minute, we heard her urgently shuffling back toward the kitchen where we were all still talking. “It is a padlock for our gate that uses a specially fitted magnet to unlock (circa 1980), and every year we’re afraid we’ll misplace it.”Ĭindy’s story reminded me of the time a few years ago when I was visiting my mom, Gloria, and my 95-year-old grandmother stopped by with her other daughter, my Aunt Sally. “Forgot we tucked it away, but if lost we’d be in deep trouble,” she wrote. The note simply read, “Magnet key in sewing table.” “I put a sticky note on the (actual, paper) calendar to remind me.” And that’s when I knew that this woman – let’s call her Cindy, since that’s her name – was a kindred spirit because I do the (actual, paper) calendar reminder thing all the time.Ĭindy went on to share a note she’d puzzled over when she found it stuck to her calendar this month. “Will you remember you have the water balloons in August?” she asked. I had mentioned that I’ll even buy the 1,000 pack of water balloons in March even though I won’t be needing them until summer. A reader wrote to me a couple weeks ago in response to a recent column where I discussed my propensity to buy everything in sight when I’m at Costco. Yugo refused and tried to attack the Xelor but Amalia, driven by her duty, stopped Yugo while Harebourg entrapped the rest of the Brotherhood of The Tofu (minus Adamai who was away on another mission) in magical ice.Īfter the Brotherhood broke free of the ice, Evangelyne told Yugo to stop the wedding when they discovered the true reason Harebourg wanted to unite his kingdom with the Sadida, to cut down their forests as fuel for his kingdom's furnace and main power source. In exchange for her had, he would return the Dofus to Yugo and Adamaï.īut when they arrived, Harebourg went back on his word, "asking" Yugo to help him use the Dofus to power his kingdom. He was tasked with keeping them safe but selfishly decided to use them as bargaining chips to "encourage" the Sadida into an alliance by offering a uniting of their kingdoms by marrying their princess Amalia Sheran Sharm. Ush, Sipho, and Harebourg conspired to steal the Six Eliatrope Dofus, with Count Harebourg taking two of them to his kingdom of Frigrost. He is defeated once again and fade in hiding. He is later followed to the Xelorium, the dimension of the God Xelor, where the player listens to his pleas of wanting to save the World of Twelve and his revelation of being a son of Xelor. In the events called "Eliocalypse", Harebourg is once again an important character, looking for anomalies in time and casting his influence over Pandalucia and the Sadida Kingdom. In the MMO Wakfu, Harebourg is thawed out of an icy prison by the hero and immediately strikes against him/her, later fleeing to the Wabbit island where he steals a Dofus hidden within the isle. However, the Demon Djaul, inchargeof the month of Decendre, took Jiva and the Dofus and trapped Frigost on eternal winter and Harebourg in solid ice. Using it alongside a massive water clock he built, Harebourg was able to steal days of the month of Decendre and essentially skipping the harsh, cold winter it brings, ensuring Frigrost a warm and plentiful year. Prior to the events of Dofus and Wakfu, Count Harebourg somehow contacted the Goddess Jiva, the guardian of the month of Javian, and granted him possession of the Glacial Dofus. You get a different setting with weapons and vehicles that are unique to the era, engrossing stories, an incredible multiplayer, and for zombie fans, there's the infinitely replayable Zombies mode. I'd have to go with Treyarch as the top Call of Duty developer, if only because both of their games are so vastly different. To me, the winner depends on which developer seems to be having the most fun with their games. Both developers have accumulated gargantuan fan bases, and each Call of Duty has been great, adding and tweaking features, breaking rules, and demolishing records. So which of these two developers makes the better Call of Duty? Looking at the aforementioned titles it's a pretty tough decision to make, and one that certainly won't please everyone. Zombies has since become an area for fun experimentation for the developer, giving us the chance to take on the roles of dead presidents, vampire slayers, and even the burned man from our nightmares, Freddy Kreuger. Possibly its most intriguing feature was its vastly improved Zombies mode that added an element of campy cheesiness to an otherwise very serious game. Its multiplayer was also one of the best online offerings from the Call of Duty series, and, thankfully, it wasn't plagued by the server and balancing issues that its predecessor had. They did this by giving us one of the best stories offered from the series so far, set in the much less-used Cold War era and told through the flashbacks of an interrogated man. Then came Black Ops-Treyarch's opportunity to shine and step out of Modern Warfare's shadow. By no means was it a bad game, but Modern Warfare 2 didn't live up to many fans' high expectations. The single-player was also plagued with a far less engrossing story that was too convoluted and relied too heavily on gimmicky scenarios, like the controversial "No Russian" mission. New players were unable to do well against players who had spent inordinate amounts of time with the game. The multiplayer was deeper, though the expanded arsenal of weapons and Killstreaks (like the 25 Killstreak that granted an instant kill-all nuclear weapon) came with rather serious balance issues. MW2 promised better visuals, more action, a deeper multiplayer, and an even more epic story. Then came 2009, which brought with it the highly anticipated Modern Warfare 2. Zombies have been gaining serious popularity over the last handful of years, so it really was a fantastic idea on Treyarch's part to include them into the mix. Its multiplayer was still fantastic, but it was its brand new mode that took the cake: Nazi Zombies. Its era might not have been terribly unique, but the combat was top-notch and it managed to show a darker side to the overused WWII setting. Treyarch followed up with Call of Duty: World At War, taking the fight back to the all-too-familiar World War II setting. Never before had online combat been so fun, so deep, and so beautiful. Its campaign was unforgettable, but it was multiplayer that ended up being its biggest contribution. Its campaign let us do things we had never done before in a video game, like pilot a bomber as it vanquished enemies from high in the sky and witness the final painful breaths of a soldier slowly dying from radiation exposure. There's no denying how incredible Modern Warfare was. So in determining which developer does its Duty the best, we'll focus on the games we're already familiar with: Modern Warfare 1 and 2 on the Infinity Ward side, World at War and Black Ops for Treyarch. Whether or not this will negatively affect Modern Warfare is something we won't know until later this year. Many gamers likely haven't forgotten the controversy between Infinity Ward and Activision that ended with several key Modern Warfare designers leaving the company and taking a couple dozen people with them. With Modern Warfare 3 due out this November, fans are clamoring for what they hope will set a new bar for the Call of Duty series. Then in 2010, Black Ops came along and it broke new records for the series and managed to earn the love of many fans that had previously pledged their allegiance to Modern Warfare. That forced Treyarch into the role of the underdog, a sort of filler to keep fans entertained while they waited for the next Modern Warfare. At first, Infinity Ward was an immediate favorite because not only were they the original CoD developers, but they were also responsible for 2007's Modern Warfare, a game that undeniably took the series to new heights in terms of both quality and popularity. Ever since Activision decided to release a new Call of Duty game every year, with Treyarch and Infinity Ward taking turns developing the titles, fans of the series started choosing sides. The plot is another key selling factor for this game. Furthermore, you play Ichiban in the most recent. You take on Kazuma Kiryu, also regarded as the dragon of Dojima, in the first seven games.
